Mike, my heart goes out to you and your beloved Cisco.

I am usually not one to get into the politics of people’s opinions of law enforcement. I know there are good and bad people in every walk of life, but I always try to give the benefit of the doubt to those that are in a position to “protect and serve”. But yesterday, a harsh reality was “served” when I received a phone call from a very near and dear person to me. The words I heard coming through my phone were nothing I would have expected in a million years—a very distraught voice saying, “The cops just shot and killed Cisco! They killed my best friend!” In shock, I asked what had happened. At the time, I only got a very brief description, as Michael Paxton was in shock and traumatized over the horrific loss of his dog. I immediately drove to his place (which is about 30 minutes away). When I arrived, I found him clutching Cisco’s body, crying and trying to understand what had just transpired.

Apparently, unbeknown to Mike, there was a domestic disturbance between a male and a female in his neighborhood, and the Austin Police Dept was called in. Unfortunately (seems like such an understatement), Mike found out quickly about the call when he walked into his driveway from his back yard where he and Cisco, his Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Healer), had been playing frisbee. Police officer T. Griffin, Badge #6778, was standing behind Mike’s vehicle, in his driveway. Before Mike even realized Officer Griffin was there, the officer had pulled his gun on Mike, yelling at him to freeze and put his hands up. In a panic, Mike stated to the officer that he lives there, and asked what and why this was happening.

Hearing the commotion, Cisco came from the back yard and into the driveway, barking at the officer, as any dog would do. Mike’s hands in the air, a gun pointed at him, he was afraid for his life, and therefore could not move or attempt to quiet or restrain Cisco. He told the officer that Cisco would not bite him, to please not shoot his dog. Almost immediately, a bullet was put into Cisco’s chest, killing him instantly. Mike still leaned against his truck, unable to move, was not allowed to even hold his best friend as he took the last breath of his abruptly-shortened life.

As was realized after this horrific event had transpired, THE COP WAS AT THE WRONG ADDRESS!!! An innocent man was traumatized by not only having a gun pulled on him by someone that is supposed to be there “to protect and to serve”, but his best friend of seven-and-a-half years was wrongly shot and killed. FOR WHAT?! Because Officer Griffin did not confirm where he was supposed to be before these events transpired!

Nothing will likely happen to Officer Griffin for any of this, as his supervisor arrived after everything took place, and she defended his actions. Mike was given the officers’ information, as well as a phone number to call, if desired. No apologies, no sympathy. Nothing. The officer even told Mike that Cisco should have been on a leash! IN HIS OWN YARD?! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!

We ended up taking Cisco’s body to be buried at a friend’s house, out in the country. Four of us spent two hours digging and breaking through limestone-filled ground, to make a hole large enough to lay to rest this man’s best friend and companion.
There are so many things wrong with this situation, that I just can’t even express it in words. My heart aches for you Mike. I know how much you love Cisco, and how much Cisco loved you. Although I am not sure what justice can or will be served in this case, your story will not go unheard. Along with many of your friends, in an effort to gain some sort of justice for you and Cisco, I am tagging all of our local news media here to get the word out.

This type of excessive force has GOT to be stopped. There needs to be consequences for behaviors such as this. There needs to be a system of “checks and balances” used, to be certain this type of thing doesn’t happen anymore—none of this would have occurred, had the officer just VERIFIED THE CORRECT ADDRESS before pulling a gun on Mike and his dog. I urge anyone and everyone that reads this, to please share this story, and let it be known that these happenings aren’t just things we read about going on in some “other city”, but right here, seriously affecting people we know and love.

If you want further information, please feel free to contact Mike directly. He is looking for any help he can get in seeking justice for his dog’s unwarranted killing.

My heart is just breaking. I have two dogs, and I’m sure if I had a yard they’d defend it like they defend my apartment. One of my dogs has epilepsy and fear aggression issues, so unlike Cisco, he WOULD bite a stranger who got too close to him. Apparently police can just kill your dog for the crime of nothing whatsoever. I can’t believe this officer isn’t facing any kind of reprimand for discharging a weapon on an innocent animal. Sickening.

this kills me. this happened less than 100 miles from me. i have a dog that barks at strange people, that’s what dogs do. and he’s a certified therapy dog! he helps me teach kids at the park how to properly approach and play with dogs. he has had their delicate, dainty little hands in his eyes, ears, and mouth and done nothing but tolerate their attention and excited squeals.

but he would still bark at a police officer in my driveway, especially if i couldnt give him a command not to. its especially terrifying for me right now because i’m too pregnant to walk him on a leash. (i lose my balance easily and if he pulls, it can give me contractions) i consider myself lucky that we can go on short walks off leash and that he responds to verbal commands, but all it takes is one person to deem him dangerous and he could be gone.

i dont blame people for being wary of him, or straight up afraid of him. he’s a big dog with a loud bark. but there’s NO REASON to shoot a dog under those circumstances, and CERTAINLY no reason to be so flippant about it.

accidents happen, this can’t be undone. but this was a huge mistake that everyone on the force should be ashamed and sorry for. i can’t imagine what could be done that would take the pain away, had it been me. but they should be trying REALLY HARD to come up with something.

i really hope someone pays for this mistake, and the man who lost his best friend can get some closure and comfort for his loss.

Toby was so sick of being inside all day, that when I let him out at lunch he just flopped over in the yard right here to lay in the sun.
When I went to make sure nothing was wrong with him, he just lifted his head up and wagged his tail and went right back to sunbathing.

Silly dog :)

too much cute, i can’t take it

so i am working from home today, and i took a little break to sit with toby in his oversized chair. he ended up resting his head, leg, and part of his chest on my giant belly.

and baby started kicking up a storm!

but what was even cuter, was that even though toby was mostly sleeping, every time he would get kicked in the face his tail would start wagging furiously.

then it would stop. and then he’d get kicked again, and his tail would start going again. then he would stop. over and over again. i didnt want to get up!

toby is going to be an awesome big brother

more pictures of this awesome cake. but even they don’t do it justice.

Kitties Are My Heroes - a brand new print in honour of my two favourite things, and for (I think) a good cause!

My cat Leeloo hurt her tail last week and had to spend a day at the vet. She’s on the mend now, but the vet bills have put me in a bit of a bind. Purchase one of these signed prints and the money will go towards keeping me afloat and keeping her in treats while she continues to heal! I don’t make a lot of money and I love this cat to pieces.

These 8.5x11 high-quality prints are $10 and ship internationally, and I’m more than happy to personalize them! Just specify to whom when you check out.

Can’t buy a print? Lend a reblog or a link! I’m not good at asking for help, but I feel okay knowing you’ll get art out of it. Leeloo and I thank you very, very much.

this is a good deal for some adorable art. i love it! (…thinking ahead to baby room art…)

Those of you that are Pro-Choice and think it’s perfectly okay for a woman [person] to have an abortion please answer me this…would you abort a litter of puppies/kittens or any other type of animal for that matter? Or would you think…

uhh… this happens all the time. and its not cruel. its actually the super caring thing to do. female dogs dont WANT to have a shit ton of puppies all their life, they just do. it has been proven that dogs (of both sexes) are happier and more relaxed after they are fixed, not to mention they avoid all sorts of health problems.

i can’t even tell you how many of my rescue animals have come to me pregnant. you know what i do? i take them in for a spay.

during the large volunteer spay/neuter events held every month, sometimes EVERY SINGLE female dog that comes in is pregnant (this happens a lot during certain seasons of the year). what do you think we’re going to do, NOT spay them?? send them back to their wretched conditions? living in a trash pile in someone’s yard because they can’t afford anything better for their animals? allow 12 more puppies to be born into those conditions? if that momma dog wasnt eating well before, she’s going to waste away to nothing nursing 12 puppies.

then youve got a bunch of dead puppies on your hands anyway, genius. and the ones that don’t die certainly can’t be adequately cared for and will likely either get out or be released onto the streets.

do you know how many dead animals i see on the side of the road between my house and work every day?? AT LEAST 5. new ones all the time. its so fucking depressing. i would a million times rather spay a pregnant dog (or cat! and i have been a foster home to over 60 kittens), whose puppies have nowhere to go and no one to care for them, than get all mushy and incompetent over how cute puppies are. and then a million times again.

AND YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE!!??

when someone stumbles across a litter of abandoned kittens, or puppies, do you know what they do? they call people like me to take care of it instead of handling it themselves. puppies and kittens are A LOT of work, and there is a very small percentage of people out there who are willing to take the time, stay up all night, spend the money, and be thorough enough to find them good homes. if other people did stuff like that, then i wouldn’t have to.

so let me reiterate all of this. i love puppies. i love kittens. i fucking love all of the animals, i’ll save anything i can. FOR THIS REASON, “aborting” litters of puppies and kittens is the humane thing to do. your stupid, emotional, very limited comparison fails miserably.

because you know what else? women (and all people capable of becoming pregnant) choose abortion for all those same reasons. why on earth would a woman who can’t feed herself or the children she already has in an unstable situation, and DOESN’T WANT TO BE PREGNANT, continue being pregnant? it’s just ridiculous.

there are women who want to be pregnant and have babies (me - 5 months preggers), and there are women who don’t. no one should have to be pregnant if they don’t want to. this shit is hard.

there are people who want to breed their dogs responsibly and take great care of their animals and find great loving homes for their puppies (although as an aside, those female dogs are still being pimped out if you ask me). and there are some people who can’t care for any additional animals that are a result of dogs humping each other (which is what they do). the absolute best thing you can do for those animals is to save them the labor of birth, and the misery of wasting away and illness.

STFU people who don’t know what they’re talking about in EITHER INSTANCE
